Description
Strawflower gets its name from its hard, dry petals that resemble shells. Native to Australia, these vivid-colored bracts are papery and contain a high amount of silica with minimal moisture. This unique structure helps them thrive in dry conditions.
Shiro Kuramata once said, “Enchantment should also be considered as function.” This reflects humanity’s fascination with time and the desire to capture fleeting beauty. Sola Cubes by Usage No Nedoko in Kyoto embody this idea, combining traditional Japanese values with nature appreciation. Each cube is encased in hand-polished crystal clear acrylic resin, preserving a real leaf, seed, or flower for a meditative glimpse into nature’s beauty.

I bought this Sola Cube as a gift, and it’s absolutely stunning. The strawflower looks incredibly lifelike, preserved perfectly in the clear acrylic. It’s a nice size (4x4x4 cm) for a desk display. While it’s beautiful, I was a bit concerned about the winter weather alert I received about keeping it away from cold drafts, which seems odd for a decorative item. Regardless, it’s a lovely piece that brings a touch of nature indoors.
